What animal was a favourite pet of the Russian czars and Queen Victoria? The Russian Blue cat!
The Russian Blue is a unique cat breed originating from northern Russia.
This breed is known for its’ short, plush like dense fur coat. You can even draw a pattern on the fur of the Russian Blue and it will stay until you make the cat’s fur smooth again. This blue-gray silky fur is reminiscent of texture of sealskin.
It’s believed that Russian Blue were first brought to UK in the middle of 19th century by merchant ships from the Russian port of Archangelsk located on the White Sea. In the 19th century, these cats were referred to as the Archangelsk Cats, or Blue Archangels.
