Blackberries are like a… Hedgehog?

Berry picking is a fun summer adventure.

Wild berry and mushroom picking is very popular family activity in Russia too.

Picking your own berries, fruits, and vegetables is a unique way to re-connect with nature and give people a true farm-to-table organic food experience.

Blackberries are one of the greatest antioxidant rich summer foods we picked the most during the summer.

We hit the jackpot: super sweet, so-easy-to-pick, giant blackberries!

Himalayan blackberry (Rubus armeniacus) can be found on the Invasive Species Council of British Columbia website. Their trailing woody vines can reach up to 6 m (20 ft.) long.

Did you know that the origin of the Russian word ‘blackberry’ is … hedgehog? From the plant’s prickly stem.

Ежевика‘ comes from the word ‘ёж‘ which means hedgehog.

In my Russian classes and courses, I share a lot about the origin of the words. This approach offers engaging learning experience that goes beyond textbooks.  I will be uploading shortly the list of names of the berries in Russian.  Keep an eye on my Russian Language Free Resources.
